  Well maintained older church building in the downtown area of Brookings. Membership - good mix of all ages. Rotation Sunday School Classes a plus. Several adult studies offered. Mostly traditional type services.
  
  Young pastors with good preaching skills. One of only a few larger congregations with a female pastor at the helm. Though nation-wide this is changing...slowly....
  
  Summer - Sunday School tends to shut down.. Wait for fall for classes to pick up.
  
  Mission emphasis on local (Harvest TAble), Conference (disaster response, Native American Ministries), National ( National Disaster Response thru UMCOR), and international ( 2 covenant relationships with missionaries in Bolivia and Cambodia), take the major church mission offerings, take many mission trips for both youth and adults.
  
  Hosts local groups and agencies (Great After School Place, Head Start, Scouting, etc). The congregation is investing in a new addition for mission outreach and to house these various activities. Projected finished in Dec 2010.
  
  Music - several styles - will not always be your favorite, but keep an open mind - next week will be your time! A praise band, several bell choirs, adult choir highlight the music talents of the congregation. Summertime especially is the time for solos, bands, etc to show off their talents during worship.
  
  The congregation of 950 only has a weekly attendance of about 350. Apparently some have forgotten the "presence" part of their membership vows... to be a contributing member of the congregation through their prayers, service, offerings, PRESENCE, and witness...
